The Story of Central Church

Central was established in the 1920s as a downtown Nashville Restoration Movement Church of Christ. The trustees and elders of the church were acting on a mission to spread the Christian gospel to an audience that they believed were underserved by traditional Restoration movement churches in the Nashville area: the urban poor. Early works of the church ranged from general benevolence efforts such as clothing and food drives, to establishing the longest running Christian radio program in US history, to providing free dental and other medical care to the poor, and even to operating two supervised dormitory buildings for young men and women who had moved to the city in search of a better life.
