Christopher Road Batist Church

In 1985, the Kings Mountain Baptist Association identified a need for a Southern Baptist Church in the Christopher Road area. The decision was made to start a missions church in this area. The churches in the Association were closely involved in the development of this mission and gave support to this area.

The first meetings were held in the home of Rick and Judy Crotts on Poplar Circle, a street near the present site of the church. Both Sunday School classes and Worship Services were held. Some of the charter members from those first meetings are still faithful and active members of the church.

In 1986, attendance had grown and the membership had grown to 26 members. The services were moved to an old store building that stood on the present site. In order to house additional Sunday School classes. a mobile unit was obtained and placed on the property.

In 1987, the church growth made it necessary to build the first stage of a long-term building project. Mission construction teams from various locations in North Carolina and other churches in the Kings Mountain Association helped complete the first building. Growth continued for the fellowship. The need to have more Sunday School and Worship space caused the church to develop the second phase of the building project.

In 1990, ground was broken for a new 300 seat Sanctuary, classrooms and office space. In the spring of 1991, the members of the Church "crossed the Jordan" and occupied the sanctuary. The first baptismal pool and choir loft were included in this building. The membership had increased to 212 and by faith we continued to grow.

In 1996, ground was broken again for a new Worship Center that would seat 600 and the Old Worship Center would become a fellowship hall and kitchen. The Worship Center would also house 10 new classrooms.

September 13, 1998, the dedication of the third Worship Center was held. The present membership now stands at 507 and continues to grow. God is still up to something at Christopher Road Baptist Church.
