History

The church in Mission Viejo was formed out of the gradual migration of saints to South Orange County beginning in the early 1990s, mainly from other churches in Orange County, with two families migrating from Colorado and Washington. Home meetings began in Mission Viejo in the home of John and Sandra Moctezuma on a weekly basis beginning in 1993, with the support and attendance of Brother Willing Luu from the church in Irvine. In addition, weekly prayer meetings began in 1995, rotating in the homes of the Ferraro’s, Watson’s, Lamb’s, and Hunter’s, and supported by Brother Louis Cheng, also from Irvine.

In 1997, a weekly home meeting was established and remains on-going in the Han’s home in Lake Forest, and has been attended by many new contacts. Brother Frank Deluna, who has a community business near Lake Forest, has invited many people. In August 1997, the Wilde family migrated to Mission Viejo from Pullman, Washington. Brother Chris Wilde serves full-time in the Living Stream radio section, and also serves as a leading one in the church. A college gospel work began to be established at Saddleback College in the spring of 1998 through the work of a full time brother, Paul Liu. The Lord blessed the labor there and right away a family was added to the church from the campus. A campus club, Christian Students on Campus, has also been established and used by the Lord to enable more contact with students. Also during this time, a number of additional families migrated to Mission Viejo, including the Hermelins and the Wards. Two couples have been married in the church here, the Tesoros and the Averys, and the Lord has also brought a number of new ones who are being built up in the church life.

Through July 1998, saints living in the South county cities functioned as a district of the church in Irvine. Each of us can testify of the help, benefit, supply, and building up received from attending the Lord’s day meetings and serving in the church there. During 1996 and 1997, Irvine periodically scheduled seasons of the Lord’s table by districts, generally in the homes of the saints, and the saints in south County enjoyed the table together in Mission Viejo. In July 1998, as a result of long-term fellowship and prayer with the Elders in the church in Irvine, with much encouragement from the southern California co-workers, and in response to our dear Brother Lee’s stated burden for the spread of the Lord’s recovery into south Orange County, the Lord’s table was permanently established in Mission Viejo. Over 200 saints from churches in southern California attended a Lord’s day morning table meeting held at Saddleback College, followed by a meal together. Concurrently, a full-time leading one, Brother Dave Yowell, began to serve in the church in Mission Viejo, and soon migrated with his family from Huntington Beach.

Beginning in early 1999 and continuing on, a team of full-time trainees from the FTTA and assigned to the church in Irvine, began to work daily on Saddleback campus. Weekly campus meetings were held, and a weekly college meeting was also held at the Hunter’s home. The participation of the trainees in the work and in the church life in Mission Viejo, has been a great blessing to the church. Weekly sister’s prayer meetings have also been established. A good fellowship and one accord has been established among the brother’s in the church through many hours of weekly and other periodic prayer and fellowship. Labor in the children’s work has been fruitful with much daily home support, and our children are quite enthused for the Lord’s day morning corporate children’s meeting, which includes some regular attendance by neighbor and community friends. Mission Viejo high school and jr. high young people continue to be very much supported by the young people’s work of the church in Irvine, and regularly attend meetings there.

The church now numbers over 30 adults and over 20 children and young people.

The Lord’s move in His recovery and his dear presence is with the saints in the church in Mission Viejo, as we grow to become the New Jerusalem, and minister Christ to build the New Jerusalem. The whole church has come together to be very burdened to be a propagating church, and to spread the wealth of the Lord’s recovery to this good community. By the Lord’s grace, supply, care, and leading, the future of the church in Mission Viejo is very promising, and we together look to Him to “add together daily those who are being saved.”
