110 East Locust Street
618-253-7451

About Us:

The City of Harrisburg was established in 1853. The original town began with donations of 4-5 acre tracts for a total of 20 acres. The city has grown to 3,000 acres today. Saline County was organized in 1847 with Abraham Lincoln as the attorney. Saline was the 99th of 102 Illinois Counties.

This city of nearly 10,000 residents boasts a strong public school system, quality education, a growing community college, four-year higher education opportunities close by, and a state-of-the-art hospital. Harrisburg is home to lovely parks, sports fields and a paved trail for walking and biking. You'll find housing for all incomes, from entry to executive level homes.

Three state highways run directly through Harrisburg. Highway 13, a four-lane divided highway enroute to Marion, just 22 miles to the west, intersects Highway 45 in Harrisburg, where you'll find shopping, restaurant and fast food selections that serve the city and surrounding counties. Highway 34 (also Main Street) runs north of the city, and the Harrisburg-Raleigh Airport also is located on Highway 34, just four miles north. Interstate 57 is located 23 miles to the west, and Interstate 24 also serves the community.
