About Us:

Lakeland is a small community with a total population of approximately 1,796 residents and 727 households nestled along the beautiful Saint Croix River in the Lower Saint Croix Valley area of Washington County, Minnesota just across the bridge from Hudson, Wisconsin. 

Lakeland was incorporated in 1951.  Ordinances were adopted in 1980 and codified in 2009.  The City's Water Utility was established in 1990.

Lakeland is a Fourth Class (under 10,000 residents) Class A Statutory City governed by a City Council made up of a Mayor and four Councilmembers.  The City Clerk and Treasurer are appointed positions.  Staff consists of Administration, a Public Works Commissioner and a City Treasurer.  The City also, contracts with a Building Inspector (MNSPECT), Attorney (Johnson & Turner), and Engineer and Water Utility (SEH).
