The city of Maple Heights was originally part of the Bedford Township. In 1813, the area was first settled in by Benjamin Fitch of Connecticut. The Dunham Road was built by John Dunham who came to Maple Heights in the year 1817. The development of present day Maple Heights began around 1849 with the opening of the Cleveland and Pittsburgh Railroad. The Connotton Valley Railroad was opened in 1881. Maple Heights was initially incorporated in July 1915 as a village. Later, on the 1st of January 1932, Maple Heights was reincorporated as a city.
