Welcome To The City Of Mount Carmel

The city of Mount Carmel is Located in upper-east Tennessee in the gently rolling foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Situated in the northeastern most end of Hawkins County, it is one of five incorporated towns or cities in the county. The other four are Rogersville, the county seat, Church Hill, Surgoinsville, and Bulls Gap. It is located approximately 80 miles northeast of Knoxville, TN, and adjacent to Kingsport, which is part of the Tri-Cities metropolitan area of Tennessee. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is only an hour and a half drive away. The tourist  towns of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are located on the outskirts of the park.

The city  covers 7 square miles and has 55 miles of roadway inside of its corporate boundaries. The population is approximately 5,600 (2008 est.). A Board of Mayor and six Aldermen govern the city, and the Mayor serves as city administrator.

The city contracts an Emergency Medical Service at the Mount Carmel Public Safety Building and there are two hospitals 15 minutes away in neighboring Kingsport; Indian Path Medical Center and Wellmont Medical Center (with a level 1 trauma team)  Fire services are provided by the Mount Carmel Fire Department. Law Enforcement Services are provided by the Mount Carmel Police Department. Tri-Cities Regional Airport is a 30 minute drive from the city to the east and the Surgoinsville Airport is a 30 minute drive to the west.

Mount Carmel is rich with economic and real estate opportunities, both residential and commercial. The city of Church Hill borders it on the west and the city of Kingsport borders it on the east. The main artery running though the city is U.S. Highway 11w. The city also is served by Norfolk-Southern railway and operates it's own sanitary waste water system.
