About

The City of Plainview was incorporated on April 5, 1886, just six years after the Fremont, Elkhorn & Missouri Valley Railroad was completed between Norfolk and Plainview.

Plainview is home to 1,246 (2010 Census) people in Pierce County, Nebraska, and offers nearly everything residents could want from amenities and health care to education and activities.

The Northeast Nebraska community is home to a hospital, clinic, nursing home and pharmacy. It has both a public and private elementary schools and public high school and is just 35 minutes from a community college.

Plainview has a variety of clubs and organizations with a something for everyone feel. Whether you want to volunteer or simply enjoy the social aspect of activities, there's something for you in Plainview.

As for recreation, Chilvers Park has a shelter for events near the playground equipment, swimming pool and horseshoe pit. The location is ideal as it sits between Plainview Public School and Highway 20, near a convenience store and restaurant.

Plainview has also received world-wide attention as it was transformed into the fictional community of Hawthorne during filming of the Academy Award-nominated film "Nebraska" during 2013.

Some call us Hawthorne. We call Plainview home.
