When the school bells rang in September 1901 to call children back to their studies, the first classes at Clarendon School got underway. The school was located at the corner of Clarendon Avenue and what is now Fourth Street, N.W. For many years boys and girls living as far away as Meyer's Lake attended classes in the red brick building.

A new building was constructed just north of the old structure in 1917 -- two stories, 13 classrooms, a gymnasium/auditorium, a basement -- all for just $137,000!Clarendon has served its neighborhood with pride and distinction for more than 100 years.
