All About Us... School History The Como-Pickton consolidated school district is the second largest in the county, combining the two communities of Como and Pickton and some from Pine Forest, Greenpond, Sandfield, Black Oak and Sandy Creek for a total of about 750 students. It is classified as 2A, according to UIL standards. The school board consists of seven elected members--President Mark Humphrey, Vice President Jace Anglin, SecretaryAbbie Darlin,Penny Spearman,Gerald Walters, Brad Carr,and Danny Ray Moss -- who meet the second Tuesday of each month. Bryan Neal is the school district's superintendent, with Sandy Billodeau serving as assistant superintendent. The secondary principal is Randell Wellman, jr high principal Lydia Walden and elementary principal is Kay Chance. All grades are housed in one campus, which is located about 15 miles southeast of Sulphur Springs on State Highway 11 East between Como and Pickton. The main number is 903-488-3671. Also on campus is a self-contained cafeteria, football field, baseball field, tennis courts, gymnasium and bus yard. Como-Pickton completed construction of an expanded high school wing and repairs to the elementary gym floor during the 2000-2001 school year. High school students enjoyed new facilities during the 1999-2000 school year. The district added a new high school wing in the fall of 1999 which included a secondary library, science lab, teacher's workroom and six instructional classrooms. The science lab included additional storage, a computer interface with Internet capabilities in several locations and more modern safety equipment. In the new library, students have access to the Internet, computers, multimedia CD ROM encyclopedias and references. New reference books were also added. Recent projects at the school included a new parking are, a new concession stand, new air conditioning systems in the gyms and installation of bleachers in the secondary gym and at the football stadium. The district has band, drill team and UIL academic events. They also offer the following sports: football, volleyball, girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, baseball and softball, boys and girls track and field, powerlifting, and boys and girls soccer. Current construction includes new office facilities for elementary, four classrooms, and a library.
