Our Mission

To develop regional partnerships that will enhance the economic, social
educational, and environmental conditions of those who live, work or do business in the Empowerment Zone area

About us

The Empowerment Zone (EZ) initiative is a comprehensive redevelopment program that affords cities throughout the country the opportunity to revitalize aging infrastructure, strengthen communities, attract new industries/businesses, and create new jobs.

Round II Empowerment Zones are funded by the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The Cities of Gary, East Chicago and Hammond were successful in securing one of fifteen Round II Empowerment Zone designations. This designation allows the cities the opportunity to take advantage of tax credits and other inducements that can help attract new businesses and enhance Zone neighborhoods. The Gary, East Chicago and Hammond (GECH) Empowerment Zone includes developable sites, commercial/residential areas that will be improved through new business development, a skilled and professionally trained workforce, and government incentives.
