Who Are We

Dorchester Seniors, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization providing services for senior citizens. It was established by the Dorchester County Council to provide services relating to human needs in the county. Dorchester Seniors, Inc. is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors appointed by the Dorchester County Council or elected by the members of the Board of Directors. Funding is received through Trident Area Agency on Aging (TAAA), Trident United Way, Dorchester County, Second Chance, building rental fees, and private contributions. Dorchester County and the David Sojourner Centers were both built and opened in 2002.

The Dorchester Seniors, Inc. mission is to provide opportunities to all senior citizens of Dorchester County to enhance their educational, mental, social, spiritual and physical well being. To acheive this goal, Dorchester Seniors, Inc. works cooperatively with other community agencies and organizations through advocacy for senior citizens and intraagency coordination including outreach, assessing needs and planning actions. Some of the organizations and agencies we have partnered with are: Trident Health Systems, Trident Literacy, Dorchester County Adult Education, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), AARP's tax aide program, Dorchester County Tax work-off program, Senior Aide Program, The Summerville Family YMCA, Community Long-Term Care and Low Country Food Bank.
