About

The Duneland Historical Society is dedicated to researching, sharing, and celebrating the history of the people and communities of Northern Porter County, Indiana.

Since 1948, the Society has collected and preserved Duneland history through its public programs, newsletters, the placement of historic markers, and other activities. The Society also contributed to the movement to include the Bailly Homestead and Chellberg Farm in the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, and to the establishment of the Westchester Township History Museum, a service of the Westchester Public Library.

Programs cover a wide variety of subjects dealing with the people and history of Chesterton, Porter, Burns Harbor, Dune Acres, and the surrounding communities of Porter County and Northwest Indiana. Speakers come from a wide range of sources, including the Society itself, area historical societies, universities, as well as authors of books pertaining to the history of the area. Twice a year the Society holds a dinner for members and their guests before its regular meeting.
