About Us:

Our facility is one of six state funded residential mental retardation facilities in Mississippi. Ellisville State School is under the jurisdiction of the State Board of Mental Health, specifically in the Bureau of Mental Retardation Division.

Our facility provides services to children and adults with mental retardation and developmental disabilities in a designated 31 county catchment area. It is the goal ofEllisville State School to provide each individual we serve with appropriate services so that each will develop to the maximum of his or her ability. We desire through treatment and training to place each individual in his or her least restrictive environment.

Ellisville State School was established in 1920 by an Act of the Mississippi Legislature. The campus is part of 2,580 acres of land deeded to the State in 1920 for the establishment of the school. The campus includes administrative, residential, programmatic, and support services facilities, as well as a lake, parks, playgrounds and other recreational areas.
