Emmanuel Episcopal Church

9668 Maidstone Road
540-364-2772

Emmanuel Church of Piedmont Parish was built in 1858 on land donated by the family of Chief Justice John Marshall, halfway between Ashby's Gap and Thoughfare Gap in the corridor connecting Manassas to the Valley of Virginia.

Before Emmanuel Church was built, the congregation met in the Methodist Church at Cool Spring. In 1846, the rector of Leeds Church, the Reverend William H. Pendleton, reported that "measures have been adopted to build a church" at Salem (now the town of Marshall). The building was consecrated on July 18, 1849 as Trinity Church and thus Piedmont Parish was born as a direct offspring of Leeds. Grace, The Plains, was built next, and then Emmanuel.

The Mission Of Emmanuel Church is to Celebrate God's grace in the world, Invite others to be a friend of Christ, Restore people to unity with God.
