We believe in God as Creator and Lord of the heavens and the earth, but not contained within creation. As part of creation, all men and women have one purpose in life: to glorify God and worshipfully live in the graciousness of His blessings. We trust in the faithful pattern of God’s leading, shaping, and empowering His people throughout history as a model of God’s unwavering covenant of grace in our own lives. It is through His faithfulness, given as a gift of grace, and not our own that we are able to see ourselves and each other as a Child of God and live in the Kingdom of God.

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God and in accordance with scripture, the only way to a saving relationship with God. A saving relationship with God is necessary because of the presence of sin in the life of every human being, save Jesus of Nazareth. His perfectly righteous life and atoning death on the Cross has made it possible for all of creation, broken by sin, to enter into a loving relationship with God. We believe that this relationship, called salvation, is available to all who confess and embrace the truth of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. God’s Word clearly states that this salvation comes through the life, death, and resurrection of His Son, Jesus of Nazareth. We state this as the foundational truth of the Church of Jesus Christ in full understanding of the presence of differing world-views and our call to be witnesses and ambassadors of the Good News of God’s love for all in Jesus Christ to the world. In the Family of Faith that is Englewood Presbyterian Church we understand and articulate this mission as such: To love all others into loving God to the end that every knee would bow and tongue confess that Jesus is Lord.

We believe in the presence and ministry of the Holy Spirit sent by God, promised by Jesus Christ, and made manifest in the lives of Believers by God’s grace and our submission to that grace. It is the presence of God in the Holy Spirit that leads and inspires the Church, and her members, to live a holy life characterized by the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Unified in our need for God’s grace in Jesus Christ, we celebrate the differing gifts of the Holy Spirit present in one another. These gifts, as described in Scripture, are given to us only for God’s glory and for the sole purpose of building up His people to maturity and a full stature in their relationship with God in Jesus Christ.
