First Baptist Church Of Del Rio

301 Avenue G
830-775-7463

In 1896, six charter members demonstrated true Texas pioneer courage in formally organizing Del Rio’s First Baptist Church.

They started ministries to serve railroad workers and their families out of a railway car named Goodwill.

Growth for Del Rio meant growth for the church. From an adobe building, the church laid the cornerstone for a new building in 1925, at the corner of Garfield and Pecan Streets near downtown. In 1960, continued growth necessitated a move to its present facility at 301 Avenue G.

First Baptist Church has never lost its strong sense for missions. El Buen Pastor and Northside Baptist were both organized because of the vision of missions thinkers from First Baptist Church.

That spirit of mission lives on even now in a new generation of Texas Baptist pioneers. Today, members of Del Rio’s First Baptist church demonstrate their faith in God through a variety of both time-tested and cutting edge ministries.

In 2005, we remain grateful to those who preceded us and who showed great foresight to establish a great church in a great city!
