First Christian Church

902 North 6th Street
217-826-2306

History:

In 1856, four years before Abraham Lincoln took the oath of office as President of the United States, a group of eleven men and women decided that what Marshall, IL needed more than anything was a body of believers gathered together as a church; independent from any denominational control.  So they established First Christian Church. Through the years these believers met and worshipped in the Court House, what is now the Unit Office of the Marshall School System, a church building just off the southwest corner of the public square on what is now Locust Street and their present facility located on North Sixth Street.  Although facilities have been a blessing through out the years, an environment in which to meet, First Christian has always been the people.

What we believe:

That everyone is broken.

No one in the world has got it altogether. Everyone hurts, everyone has regrets and no one has turned out to be the person that they hoped. We’ve all blown it. That is why everyone needs a relationship with Christ.  Because of God’s great love for us, he sent Jesus.  God doesn’t want a religion with you.  He wants to have a relationship with you.  And there is a great place to start the healing process. – (Romans 3:23, John 3:16, Acts 2: 37-38)

That the Christ is in charge!

Jesus is the Head of this church body!  As His obedient people, He is our real and true boss.  We live to serve Him. He is the eternal source of all that is love and life…power and peace… hope and happiness! – (Ephesians 4:15, 16)

That the Bible is God’s Word.

The Old and New Testament are God’s message to us.  They are entirely accurate and not only that, they apply to our lives here and now!  We believe that if you study the Bible and do what it says, you will find God’s purpose for your life and you will be changed forever.- (Luke 6:46-49)
