First Church of God

9550 Crenshaw Boulevard

About Us:

We are a fast growing, busy and exciting Church, with two beginnings. One stream began in 1892 and the other in 1940. In 1972, under Pastor Benjamin F. Reid, the two streams came together.

In 1996, after 25 years of service Bishop Benjamin F. Reid retired as Senior Pastor of First Church of God. The Lord elevated Dr. Gregory L. Dixon, then Executive Pastor, to the office of Senior Pastor. As Bishop Reid passed the mantle to Dr. Dixon, he declared:

“Our future is as bright as the promises of God, and the best is yet to come!”

Since 1996, our mission is to extend the hands of the church to reach those outside its walls in Inglewood and surrounding communities. We have over 30 ministries and a Community Development Agency to assist in fulfilling the needs of the people of God.

In June of 2002, Dr. Dixon was consecrated to Bishop, an assignment not sought after, but answered in response to the will of God. The vision of First Church of God is to evangelize our community and make disciples who are empowered, embraced, and established through Christian education so that the Lord Jesus Christ is worshipped and served. The vision is carried out through our mission, which is to; Evangelize, Empower, Embrace, Establish and Educate. The church has a rich history of making a direct impact in the city for over 30 years. Through innovative services and out reach ministries, First Church of God has become an icon of support of more than 3,000 members and area residents.

God has truly smiled on First Church of God...Center of Hope. Hundreds of people have found peace and pardon at our altars. Hundreds of lives and homes have been transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ, which is proclaimed at First Church of God. The world is full of individuals who validate the truth that when hope dies, despair steps in. When one has no hope, he sees no reason for living. We, as a community of believers, are charged with the responsibility of being a place of refuge where people who have fleeting hope or who have lost all hope can find purpose and meaning for life. Christ is our hope, the anchor to the soul, which the writer to Hebrews declares is both sure and steadfast and therefore can be counted on in times of ease or challenge. To this assignment we say an eternal yes here at First Church of God...Center of Hope, and trust Him to make good on His promise to be an Anchor of Hope!
