Fort Morris State Historic Site

2559 Fort Morris Road
(912-884-5999

This State Historic Site and its remaining earthworks were fortified and garrisoned to protect the thriving port of Sunbury on the Medway River. It is believed to be the only surviving earthworks from the Revolution and possibly, the War of 1812, in Georgia.

Today, the remaining earthworks of Fort Morris and part of the Sunbury Cemetery are the only signs of this early vibrant Georgia community. Areas surrounding the cemetery and the Fort Morris site are experiencing an explosive growth today that makes the preservation of this site as the only remaining revolutionary earthworks in Georgia more important than ever before.
