History

Galeton Elementary School was first established in 1911, when the town of Galeton was only a year old. In1922 Galeton High School was established. Early teachers frequently boarded with local families and a "teacherage" was built to house teachers as well. The community was very proud of its K-12 school supporting every activity with great enthusiasm. But in 1963 for financial reasons, Galeton joined forces with several other small communities in North Weld County to form the Eaton RE-2 School district. Beginning in the fall of that year all of Galeton's junior-senior high students were bused into Eaton and Galeton became Galeton Elementary again. An addition of seven modern classroom was dedicated in 1978, the district built a new Middle School, and Galeton's 5th and 6th graders joined the 7th - 12th grade students in Eaton. From then until 2003-2004 all fourth graders in the district were bused to Galeton. Two new classrooms were added to the building in 2000. In the school year 2003-2004 Galeton Elementary School will become a K-5 school with one class per grade. Through all of the changes one thing has remained constant, the support of the Galeton community. Thank you for all that you do to make our school great!
