Why be a girl scout leader?

When I was asked if I would be interested in creating a girl scout brownie troop when my daughter was in the first grade at first I thought "I don't think so". I think back now nine years later and wonder how I could have ever hesitated in that decision. Had I not decided to create a troop look at all of the opportunities to help guide girls in a direction that may affect their lives in a positive way I would have missed. Not only have I tried to teach the girls that have been in my troop how to be positve roll models in their community through good works and community service, but I have learned so much from watching them grow from little first grade brownies into the wonderful young ladies they are becoming. I am so blessed to have such a wonderful opportunity to be a scout leader, and if ever you are faced with a question like I was "what good can I do?" Just take a look at the girls in our troop and see the good they have done and still do and know that even when you think you may not know what your purpose is, God does and he can guide your every step in helping guide another girl that is a better adult roll model because of her journey through girl scouts. Unfortunatly as girls get older it is not so cool to be a girl scout and kids make fun of girls that participate in scouting so they start dropping out. It is a proven fact that if you give the girls something to look forward to for example a trip abroad the chances of them staying in and earning important awards such as their Gold award is more likely. This is why we dicided to take a trip to Europe. This trip has renewed the girls commitments and kept them excited. Our troop has saved their cookie money for the past four years and they are working hard doing other fundraisers to raise money to take an educational trip to Europe next summer. These girls will be able to experience first hand another culture that most kids can only read about in books. Please find it in your heart to visit our fb group and learn more about these girls and their goals and help them get to Europe.
