History of Grand View Baptist Church:

In the summer of 1983, God called Pastor Mutchler to start a new church. In the fall of the same year, he knew it would be in the Portland, Oregon area. After raising support for seven months, he arrived in Portland for the first time on July 5th, 1984. After finding a home to rent, he went to work finding a place to get the new church started.

It took a few weeks before he found the Carpenter's Hall on Warner-Milne Rd. in Oregon City. After knocking on over 1,000 doors a week for four weeks, and having three "get acquainted" meetings, the first service was held on September 9th, 1984. Seventy-five people showed up and three were saved. A new work had begun.

At six months we had 121 in attendance, at one year: 154; two years: 195 ; three years: 284 ; four years: 395, with an average attendance of 225.
Through a set of circumstances, Grand View Baptist Church withdrew from the Free Will Baptist Denomination to become an Independent Baptist Church. It was a difficult transition at first and the church core dropped to 80 when the church was five years old. From there, they started again with no money, no land, no possessions, and some debt.

God was faithful, and after the first year, they were blessed of God again. They found the present piece of property two years later, in 1991, then raised up $40,000.00 for a down payment, and 18 months later, started building their first building. This building was almost solely built by the membership at a cost of $18.00 per square foot. We entered the new building in October of 1993. The first Sunday we had no doors, no carpet, no pews. Three weeks later, we were done.
