Greenwood Community Center

Mission: The Greenwood Community Center, established in 1974 and incorporated in 1983, offers the residents of Elk a place for cultural, educational and civic events. A part of the Center's mission is to raise funding through rentals and special events like the annual Great Day in Elk to sustain and further services. As a tax-exempt, non-profit organization, we are committed to offering events and activities not otherwise available in our rural area on the north coast of California. We champion opportunities for local residents to utilize their talents and create partnerships which offer a diverse array of experiences that enrich the life of our community.

Vision: As a town of 250 residents located on the rural north coast of California, we recognize that our children and youth have limited access to educational and cultural experiences. This past year, we completed renovations of the Greenwood Community Center including the Del Wilcox Stage which represents the culmination of thousands of hours of volunteer efforts as well as support received through donations and a grant from the Cowell Foundation. We are now seeking funding to create partnerships which will allow the Center to fully utilize the new stage by bringing artists from both the local area and the San Francisco Bay Area to give performances and interactive workshops at the Center. We want to sustain and further the Center's mission to enrich the life of our community through providing lively performances and offering our children and youth hands-on opportunities to engage in the arts. We intend to seek funding that offers support in helping to bring quality performances which might not otherwise take place in our community."
