Hartwood Elementary School

Hartwood Elementary School is a “Community of Learners.” Our community is comprised of approximately 360 children in kindergarten through grade five and almost 50 full and part-time staff members. Hartwood is located in a suburban area of Pittsburgh, serving children from a wide variety of backgrounds. We share the beautiful wooded school grounds with Dorseyville Middle School. We are fortunate to have the Blue Run Nature Trail, as well as several outdoor classroom spaces, right at our fingertips.

Parents are an integral part of the picture, serving as volunteers, members of the site-based management team and working through the Parent Teacher Organization.

Learning is the focus of our community.

We have a strong academic program honoring individual differences and the developmental stages of children. This is basic to the educational framework, daily planning and delivery of instruction.

It is our goal to develop collaborative skills among children and adults in order to foster the spirit and intent of a learning community.

We employ the practice of ongoing data collection with evaluation and reflection remaining fundamental to the organizational and academic structures of the school.

We demonstrate a commitment to adult instruction as evidenced through professional staff development and parent education seminars and workshops.

Hartwood Elementary School is proud of all that has been accomplished and is committed to providing the very best for the youngest members of our learning community, our children.
