Hibiscus Children's Center is a non-profit organization that is successfully breaking the vicious cycle of child abuse with the support of the local community. The mission of Hibiscus is to provide services to children and families on the Treasure Coast in an effort to prevent and reduce child abuse and neglect. Founded in 1985, Hibiscus has served over 15,000 children and 6,000 families caught in the deadly cycle of abuse through the following five major programs:

Hibiscus Children's Shelter provides a safe environment for newborns to 12-year olds with 24-hour “awake” supervision, medical and dental care, plus psychological counseling. The only licensed residential child caring Shelter on the Treasure Coast, our facility cares for children removed from their families by court order. Since 1989, we’ve provided over 115,000 safe nights for children. As a result, we’ve significantly reduced the impact of abuse on their long-term health, safety and self-esteem.

Hibiscus Crisis Nursery is an abuse prevention program for families who seek help voluntarily. Crisis Nursery offers respite care, counseling, housing and mental health services. Over the past, 100% of the families we served resolved their crises – without having to enter the child welfare system.

HOPE (Healthy Opportunities for Parenting Excellence) is an in-home counseling program that has an 90% success rate in serving families who are in danger of losing their children due to abuse or neglect. Through intervention, our team of case workers helps hundreds of families each year to understand the underlying causes of abusive behavior and find constructive ways to resolve their conflicts.

Hibiscus Foster Care provides a full continuum of services, including recruiting, training, licensing, and re-licensing to foster families. Hibiscus has trained 80% of active foster families in our community. We are filling the enormous gap that exists for the hundreds of vulnerable children who are not safe in their own homes and do not have a loving family to care for them.

Hibiscus Children’s Village, opened in April 2004, provides a loving home for up to 72 children removed from their homes due to egregious abuse and neglect. Children will transfer from the Shelter to the Village, where they will live in a more home-like environment – with eight homes, house parents, and a campus center. The Village will be a safe haven where children can more naturally prepare for a successful transition into foster or adoptive homes.

Through the incredible support of the community, Hibiscus Children’s Center continues to fight the devastating cycle of child abuse and to protect our greatest resource … our children. Thank you for your support and for helping us make our community a safer place for all children. Please contact us for more information or to volunteer.
