Hiram Fire Department

11617 Garfield Road
330-569-9826

The first volunteer fire department of Hiram was organized in 1897. It was at that time merely a bucket brigade. At that time, a four-wheel horse-drawn cart was purchased from the Warren Fire Department. To double their equipment, the volunteers cut this cart and made two, two-wheeled vehicles which were used for almost thirty years.

In 1931, Hiram bought a new motorized fire truck. The residents and council of Hiram Village took advantage of an offer from Hiram Township and Hiram College to share the cost of the new fire truck. Again in 1941, a new truck was purchased which the fire department still owns today.

During 1975, Hiram Fire Department began providing Emergency Medical Services, which consisted of a first responder vehicle that responded and rendered aid until a transport ambulance arrived.
