410-778-3499

The Historical Society of Kent County Maryland, Inc. is a private not for profit group organized in 1936.

The charter members were concerned with preserving knowledge of Kent
County's long history. Kent County, founded in 1642, is the second-oldest county in the State of Maryland. The first settlement on the Eastern Shore of Colonial Maryland was William Claiborne's trading settlement on the Island of Kent, 1634. Since then Kent County has changed size and shape a number of times.

According to the Society's charter, its goals are to "preserve and disseminate knowledge relative to the social, political, civil, military, literary, biographical and religious history of Kent County."
