Hudson City School District

215 Harry Howard Avenue
518-828-4360

The community of the Hudson City School district is located on the Hudson River, approximately two hours north of New York City and less than one hour south of Albany, the capital of New York State. Nestled between the picturesque Catskill and Berkshire Mountains, year round recreational and cultural opportunities abound.

Hudson has become increasingly diverse. It is a site for weekend residents, who enjoy the high end antique stores, local art galleries and performance venues, restaurants and shops along Warren Street and historic restoration within the city. The city is also home to a working class community; 25% of whom live below the poverty line. The population is racially and ethnically diverse, including groups of African Americans, Hispanics, and new immigrants from Pakistan and Bangladesh.

About the District
The educational program of the district is provided in four school buildings. Approximately 2200 students from the City of Hudson and surrounding towns attend classes in the two elementary buildings, (K-2 and 3 - 4), the middle school, (5-8), and the high school, (9-12). The middle school and the high school have been identified as "schools in need of improvement" and are currently addressing these issues. Partnerships with Columbia Greene Community College and Bard College enhance the educational programs offered to the district's students.

This year the district is operating under a $30,664,561 contingency budget due to two unsuccessful votes last spring. This is the first time in the history of the district this has occurred. A community Booster Club formed subsequent to the budget defeat has raised $265,000 to restore the interscholastic sports and arts programs. Additionally, a $50,000 private donation was received to support the music program and the City of Hudson also provided additional financial assistance.
