Church History:
A Rich History:1870 - 19877

The Church had its beginning at Todd'ss Point located on Old Zion Road leading from Floydsburg to Ballardsville, Kentucky.  Nine men had the vision to form "The Community of Baptist Brothering" church in 1870.  These faithful Christ followers wanted a place to worship and was offered the Woolfolka' Chapel, a Methodist Church Facility in the beginning.  Later, we became the Todd's Point Baptist Church and membership grew.  Land was purchased and a two-story church was built.  The building was shared by a lodge, the Shelby County Board of Education for a day school and the church . . . not named Junkins Run Baptist Church.   Soon after, another church site was built just east of that location due to additional growth.

Many wonderful, Spirit-filled pastors lead this church through those many years in the beginning of our church history!  One of those men was Reverend Owens who moved the church to Crestwood, where land was purchased near the railroad tracks just off Highway 146.  This Church was built and became Kenwood Missionary Baptist Church.  Rev. Owens led the church for over 13 years and then eight other ministers led the congregation.  Our history wouldn't be complete without giving honor to the "Saints of Kenwood" who led the church over the first 100+ years!

More Recently... 1987 to Present:

In 1987, God led Reverend James E Booker, Jr., to be pastor of Kenwood Baptist Church in Crestwood.  Rev. Booker came into the church where only 13 members were worshiping at that time.  God had other plans for the church.  In October, 1992, the State Highway Department came through and took over Kenwood's property.  Four acres of land was purchased on Highway 22 and later another 1.3 acres were acquired for the future site of the church.  In the meantime, Kenwood had to move from the Crestwood property and began worship services at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Pewee Valley.

In November, 1995, Kenwood was blessed to be able to hold a Mortgage Burning Ceremony for the current property.  Kenwood also went through another change with a new name . . . Kenwood Northeast Missionary Baptist Church.  God said, "Ask for what you want and not for what you already have!"  Kenwood began making plans for a new church facility and the Holy Spirit put it into "works".  As you can see, we began in an old facility on the land and are now blessed with our NEW church facility!  In 2003, our theme began"  "Dream It, Believe It, Receive It, and you shall Achieve It!" becaue we believe that "We can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens us" (Phil 4:13).

We praise God and give Him all the glory for all He has done for Kenwood.  We have been blessed with many new members over the past few years and wonderful Assistant Pastors to help Rev. Booker build the Family of God here at Kenwood!
