Mission
The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

About Us
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization founded in 1920 as a direct result of the ratification of the 19th Amendment that secured the right to vote for women in the United States. Women who worked hard for 72 years to gain the right to vote wanted to help all voters become educated about current issues so they would be informed and active participants in democracy.

The League of Women Voters is highly respected for its true nonpartisanship and for its history of carefully studying all aspects and consequences of a public policy issue before taking a formal position on the issue.

The League does not endorse individual political candidates or political parties. The League does work to influence public policy through education and advocacy. There are over 900 state and local Leagues in all 50 states, in Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the District of Columbia. League of Women Voters membership is open to any person who subscribes to the purposes and policies of the League.
