Vision

I picture a congregation with uplifted hands, smiling faces, and warm hearts. A warm congregation that is so happy with their church that they naturally want others to come and wholeheartedly welcome them when they do.

A church not centered around location, or programs, or affluence, or standing, or leadership, but a church centered around a driving appreciation of what Jesus has done for us. A church of openness; openness of ourselves to grow in God, openness of our homes to those in need (Romans 12:13), openness of our wallets to promote the Gospel within the church, to the community around us, and to the whole world.

I believe that God puts a church in a certain area to reach those in that area and to set a standard for all. A church should not be afraid of competition nor of comparison. Church growth comes when the body is healthy and honors God, then God pours out blessings. He is building now His great church and my goal is to be in the center of the movement of the Holy Spirit.

History

This church was originally named Community Christian Fellowship. We were founded in 1979 by Lt. Col. Paul Lowery.

Five families originally met in his house to have freedom of worship and learn about the "Full Gospel" message. After outgrowing the Lowery's house, the church rented a larger house on Miller Blvd. where they continued to meet and grow for 2 years.

In 1981, the church purchased this building which was an empty Sears warehouse. The church became a member of Liberty Fellowship of Churches in November of 1988. We have experienced a tremendous blessing since that time and have grown form 80 people to our present number of 540.

On October 6, 1991, we changed our name to Liberty Christian Church and began two Sunday morning services to accommodate the people. In June, 2002 we added a Saturday evening service to have capacity for continued growth.

In August, 1995 we left the oversight of Liberty Fellowship to become a part of the Apostolic Council of the newly formed Church Foundational Network. This network of churches and ministers is headed by Ken Sumrall, the original founder and visionary of Liberty Ministries. "Liberty" denotes our freedom in Christ; "Christian" tells the world who we are and whom we serve; "Church is what we are all about. We are a part of the "church" in Havelock and the "church" of our lord Jesus Christ worldwide.
