Linden Volunteer Fire Department

4561 John Marshall Highway
540-636-3473

The Linden Volunteer Fire Department was founded in December of 1990 to provide Fire/Rescue and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to the people of Linden, Virginia and Warren County, as well as western Faquier County. We began service on March 15 of 1991 with only a few members and one piece of emergency equipment. Since that time, we have grown to over 24 members, 4 pieces of Fire/Rescue equipment and 2 EMS vehicles.

In April of 1994, we started our Juniors Program, a program to get the young men and women in the community involved with the department to help them grow and provide service to the community.

The number of calls we are responding to has continued to grow over the past 6 years. In 1993, we responded to 360 calls for assistance. In 2000, we responded to 697 calls for assistance. These calls included fire suppression, EMS, automobile accidents, hazardous materials incidents, and calls for public service. In the past ten years, the Linden Volunteer Fire Department has gone from being the newest fire station in Warren County, to being the busiest county fire station, covering the largest area in Warren County and western Faquier County.

In 1998, the volunteer force of the Linden Volunteer Fire Department was augmented with two paid staff by the Warren County Department of Fire and Rescue to provide fire and rescue services during the day when the volunteers are at work in their full time positions. These positions provide only staffing and the department still relies heavily on the generosity of the community to provide the necessary supplies and equipment to respond to emergency incidents.

The volunteer fire and rescue system is suffering from a shortage of volunteers statewide. This has very much become an epidemic across the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Linden Volunteer Fire Department is no exception. We are always in need of new volunteers to help. Volunteers are needed for both operational and administrative positions. Examples of positions available include fire fighting, emergency medical services, mechanical maintenance, grounds maintenance, and administrative tasks. If you have an administrative talent you would like to offer to the department but do not wish to run operational calls, please feel welcome to join our members. For questions regarding membership in the department, please contact Nikki Boland, Membership Committee Chair, at 540-636-3473.
