Long Beach Middle School

239 Lido Boulevard

The primary responsibility of the Middle School is to assist students to grow as individuals and achieve success in society. Our goal is to continue to strive for both of these objectives. Therefore, the following eligibility requirements have been established for all extracurricular activities (sports and clubs) and will be supervised by the Activity Committee:

1.Students failing multiple subjects will be declared either ineligible or on probation.
2.Evidence of continued severe disciplinary problems may lead to either ineligibility or probation.
3.The Activity Committee will render the decision on either ineligibility or probation. Any student placed on probation will have his/her academic performance and/or behavior monitored on a daily basis.

Furthermore, it is the belief of the middle school community that participation in all activities should be dependent upon a student fulfilling his/her responsibility at school. In particular, the issues of academic performance and student behavior will be the determining factors in any student participating in such activities as class trips, activity day, promotion exercise for eighth graders, etc. A committee of middle school staff will evaluate each student for each activity looking at both actual performance as well as consistent improvement in either behavior or performance.
