About Us:

We are a loving, active congregation of nearly 300 members that focuses on nurturing faith of all ages, serving in the Salinas Community and throughout the world, and worshipping in life-giving and creative ways. Our worship experiences include a variety of musical styles and participation by all ages from infant to over 90 years old.

Our congregation first met in a “scout house” across the street from its first location at 817 Beech Street in Salinas, California. The first worship services were held in September of 1947 and the first building was dedicated in 1949. In 1983, the congregation purchased 3.5 acres at our current site of 580 Larkin Street. By 1991, with the help of our members volunteer efforts and hours, we began worshipping in our new sanctuary.

LCGS offers numerous opportunities for music, including vocal choirs, a bell choir, a worship band, and special musical events throughout the year. Our education and youth programming provide meaningful activities and seeds of faith development for all ages. Additionally, we are engaged in shared ministry with a number of community service organizations locally including Women Alive and Dorothy’s Place. We also sponsor a missionary, have regular participants in delegations to El Salvador through Santa Cruz al Salvador, and support ministries in Rwanda and Jamaica.

We are a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), one of the largest Protestant bodies in the United States. The over 4 million members of the ELCA are committed to living out the phrase: God’s work, Our hands. Empowered by God’s grace, we are sent into the world to share the love & light of Jesus Christ. We work to bring healing, reconciliation and peace into our homes, our community, and the world.
