In partnership with and in service to our community, the Lyon County School District will enable all students to be productive members of society at their maximum potential, by providing the best education possible. We serve the citizens of Lyon County. Our district enrolls approximately 1,000 students in three schools, all conveniently located on one large campus. We have preschool for three and four year olds, Students Studyingelementary school for kindergarten through fifth grade, middle school, and high school. Head Start Preschool is available for children whose families meet certain income requirements and also for children with disabilities regardless of income. Our school system is concerned with the development of the whole child - academically, socially, creatively, emotionally, and physically. The schools work together to provide an inviting environment for learning. One of the advantages of our small school system is teachers can respond to students personally because they understand each child's circumstances. All teachers in the Lyon County system are certified to teach their assigned area. They are required to spend 24 hours each year in professional development. Our teacher/pupil ratio is well below the maximum levels established by statute. Our classrooms are equipped with up-to-date technology that is transforming education. There are networked computer labs in each school and networked computers in all classrooms, equipped with filtered internet service. Our student-computer ratio is approximately 5:1.
