Vision Statement
McKendree United Methodist Church, a community of Brothers and Sisters in Christ, seeks to be a regional faith center that intentionally reaches out to offer God's love and grace to all persons and encourage growth in faithful discipleship. Ministries focus on meaningful worship experiences that include a diversity of styles, settings and music, warm and genuine fellowship fostering a sense of belonging. Biblically based teaching and study opportunities, Spirit-filled outreach that is motivated by meeting human need in Christ-centered ways, and generous giving of resources that results in abundant life. We strive to make the presence of Jesus Christ real and relevant in the lives of those whom we reach and seek to pass on His joy and enthusiasm through training, nurturing in the faith and sending out in mission and ministry to the world.

History of McKendree UMC
In 1883, a small community of devoted Christians came together to worship. McKendree's congregation was part of a circuit of churches, and in 1915 they built the white frame church on the hill (now our youth center).

Since the time of the original brush arbor and frame schoolhouse with outhouses, McKendree UMC has been the center of the community for more than 100 years. The church was named after Bishop William McKendree, who was the first American born bishop of the Methodist Church. We currently occupy two facilities - the "Main Building" (where we worship), and the Lockridge Center (the white frame chapel and fellowship hall building on the far side of the cemetery).

Since 1984, McKendree has grown from 35 in one weekly service to over 800 in two Sunday morning worship times. The church is home to a Preschool of almost 200 students, 13 different Scouting organizations and a wide variety of church related ministries. McKendree is an historic church with an exciting past and a promising future.
