Menominee Indian School District

Highway 4755
715-799-3824

The Menominee Indian School District (MISD) was established by the State of Wisconsin in 1976. Its boundaries encompass the Menominee Indian Reservation, as well as the Middle Village in Shawano County, making it the only public school district in the State to be located almost entirely on Indian lands.

MISD includes the schools of Keshena Primary School, Menominee Indian Middle School, Menominee Indian High School and an Adult Learning Center. Approximately 1,000 students attend MISD schools.

While MISD works cooperatively with the Menominee Indian Tribe, it is a distinct entity from the Menominee Indian Tribal School. MISD operates under State laws, guidelines and standards, which apply to all Wisconsin public schools systems.

The Vision of the district is to enrich the lives of our children through education. To order to achieve our vision, our Mission is to provide a safe learning environment that allows every child an opportunity to succeed intellectually, academically, emotionally, socially and physically. Our ultimate goal is to improve student achievement in reading, writing and math skills in every classroom.

In addition, MISD recognizes the cultural importance of the Menominee Nation and Native Americans as a whole. That is why the District has also developed a Cultural Mission, which is to infuse Menominee culture into daily learning. This helps the students take pride in who they are and to understand and appreciate their culture and heritage.

Both parts of our mission are used in making decisions about curriculum, instruction, assessment, student placement and school activities in order to enhance the overall learning community.
