The Middletown, MD Lions Club is part of the International Association of Lions Clubs, or simply Lions Club International. Lions Club International began as the dream of a Chicago businessman, Melvin Jones. In 1917, the “Association of Lions Clubs” was formed in Chicago. Today, the International Association of Lions Clubs is the largest service organization in the world with over 1.5 million members in 180 countries. Each Lions Club's primary goal is service, first to its own community, and then to those in need anywhere in the world.

Middletown Lions Club was chartered on March 16, 1931, sponsored by the Frederick Lions Club. The Middletown Lions Club strives to meet the needs of the Middletown community, and offer an opportunity for membership to service-minded men and women.

Middletown Lions Club provides support to Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, scholarships for Middletown High School students, Middletown Volunteer Fire Company, Middletown Food Bank, eye care for the needy, school supplies for Middletown Elementary School, Senior Citizen activities, and needy family assistance.

At the regional and national level, the Club supports the Maryland Eye Bank, Lions Vision Research, Leader Dog program, and the Lions Club International Foundation.
