Our mission is to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of Monroe County’s history, culture, and natural environment. Our museum offers both permanent and rotating exhibits throughout the year, giving Monroe County residents and visitors of all ages a chance to experience what life in Monroe County was like for diverse kinds of people at different times, and to connect these stories with our lives today. We also offer a local history library, and a museum gift shop. Through our activities, the MCHS collects, preserves, researches, interprets and exhibits the genealogy, history, and artifacts of Monroe County, and helps fit the life of Monroe County into the story of the State of Indiana and of the United States as a whole.
