Marcia Sloane who lives, teaches, and performs in northern California. Marcia Sloane began playing cello at age nine in Honolulu, Hawaii. She studied cello with Margaret Rowell and received her B. A. in India Studies from Sonoma State University singing north Indian classical with Laxmi G. Tewari. She is an orchestral and chamber player and has performed in a variety of musical genres including the Don Ho Show in Waikiki, Ancient Future in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Caravan Stage Company in Ontario, Canada, and collaborative projects involving composition and improvisation with visual art, theatre, and dance. Her works have been performed at the New Directions Cello Festival and Mendocino Music Festival and she has produced two CDs available through Navarro River Music. Skyward, a CD of songs and instrumental compositions for cello and voice with marimba, accordion, clarinet, guitar, piano, and percussion, was featured on National Public Radio's online music program Open Mic. Cello Drones for Tuning and Improvisation and Marcia's teaching approach using drones were the subject of an article in the December 2005 issue of Strings Magazine. Marcia is a Ta Ke Ti Na teacher, facilitating a group rhythm process using the body as a musical instrument. She maintains a cello studio in Ukiah, California
