New Century Middle School Mission

The New Century Middle School Staff shall provide a healthy environment addressing the academic, social and physical needs of our students. We believe that all students can succeed in a positive climate where parents and community are involved. Each student will be challenged to learn, achieve and perform.

Moore County Schools' Vision Statement

Our mission is to provide a safe learning environment where academics and integrity are expected from all. We challenge all students to reach their full learning potential and inspire them to become productive members of society.
History:

New Century Middle School opened its doors in Cameron , NC for the first time in August of 1997 to approximately 750 anxious sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. The opening of New Century united four small communities. Until this time students would attend the same school from kindergarten to eighth grade. Now students who attend Vass, Carthage , Cameron, and Sandhills Farmlife become Centurions when they complete the fifth grade.

The floor plan of the school lends itself to team teaching and a sense of smaller community. Each grade level has a wing housing 10 homerooms, a computer lab and mini offices. The school offers a challenging core curriculum that has earned multiple designations as a School of Distinction and a School of Excellence. Students get the opportunity to choose from wide variety of enriching educational experiences in art, music, physical education and computer technology.

NCMS also has several sports and extracurricular activities to offer students. We offer softball, baseball, basketball, tennis, soccer, football, volleyball, golf, and cheerleading. Students can participate in numerous clubs and organizations such as: the Newspaper Club, Art Olympic Team, Rota-Runners, Leo Club, Fitness Club, and Battle of the Books.

The first principal was Bill Shields (1997-98), followed by Dr. Ted Mataxis (1998-2000), current director for the MCS Career/Technical programs. Mrs. Joan Frye retired from education in June of 2005 after leading our school for five years. Mrs. Cindy Holland is our current award-winning principal. Every year our school has had two assistant principals. The first pair was Mr. Pete Buchan and Ms. Lorae Roukema, followed by Ms. Cindy Kremer, Mr. Seth Power (current principal at Highfalls Elementary), Ms. Cindy Holland (our current principal), Ms. Judith Douglas (current principal at West End Elementary), Ms. Cheryl Ann Jackson (current principal at Carthage Elementary), and Mr. Dale Buie (current assistant principal at Union Pines High School). Mr. Kevin Mabe and Ms. Pam Francisco are our assistant principals at this time.

In addition, our staff consist of 1 data coordinator, 1 bookkeeper, 11 sixth grade teacher, 10 seventh grade teachers, 10 eighth grade teachers, 12 Encore teachers, 10 Exceptional Ed teachers, 6 teacher assistants, 7 cafeteria workers, 4 janitors, 1 SRO officer, and 3 guidance counselors.

Our school mission is to provide a safe environment that addresses the academic and social needs of our students, developing responsible behavior. We believe that all students can succeed in this positive environment where parents and community are involved, and each student is challenged to learn, achieve and perform.
