Nixon-Smiley Consolidated Independent School District is a small, rural school district located in a central Texas farming community. It serves close to 1000 very diverse students from seven communities encompassing 376 square miles. The district was formed in 1983 from the consolidation of two smaller districts who were struggling with financial and curricular challenges. Its three campuses are very proud of their well-maintained buildings and the on-going facility improvement program.

The district is located approximately 50 miles Southeast of San Antonio, 70 miles South of Austin, and 64 miles Northwest of Victoria.

We offer a full range of instructional programs, special programs, and vocational programs. In addition, the district has abundant technology resources including full Internet connectivity in every classroom, a distance learning classroom with two-way interactive video, and a state-of-the-art Synergistic Systems lab. Teachers and students have access to computers in every classroom and seven labs.

Students in Nixon-Smiley can choose from a wide range of extra-curricular activities. Cheerleaders, twirlers, dance team, and pep squads provide enthusiastic support for the athletes. The National Honor Society, FFA, Future Homemakers of America, Student Council, Business Professionals of America and other organizations are available to high school students. The district has also implemented dual-credit courses at high school where students can earn college credit while still in high school.
