Open Door Baptist Church

875 Academy Drive

Mission :

Open Door Baptist Church exists to bring glory to God! We seek to accomplish this by the edification of Christians, the faithful preaching and teaching of the Bible, the proclamation of the gospel of Christ throughout our community and the world, the promotion of Godly worship, and defense of "the faith once delivered."

History:

The Church of the Open Door was founded as an independent fundamental church in 1962 by Dr. Robert E. Mayer. For six months a Bible study was held in a private home. Regular Sunday and Wednesday services began in November of 1962. The small congregation met first in a rented storeroom on the corner of Fifth and Locust Streets. In November of 1963 the church was incorporated and moved into a larger church building on Fourth Street.

In the fall of 1978 Lebanon Christian Academy began. The church and school moved into a stone mansion located on East Walnut Street. In 1980 the church and school moved again, this time into a newly-constructed building at 875 Academy Drive where the church and school continue to thrive.

In the summer of 1997, Dr. Mayer resigned and in September of that same year, Rev. Craig L. Griffith, Sr. became Pastor of the church where he continues to serve the Lord faithfully.

In 2001 the church's name was officially changed to Open Door Baptist Church for the purpose of clarifying the church's doctrinal position to the community.

Burdened to further educate men and women in the truth of God's Word, Pastor Griffith established the Open Door Bible Institute. Classes began in the fall of 2003.

Open Door Baptist Church continues to develop its ministries to further reach our community. Each year ODBC maintains a presence for Christ at the Lebanon Area Fair and many of the local retirement and nursing facilities benefit from ODBC outreach.

Looking into the future, Lebanon Christian Academy will open in 2012 as a 21st Century Hybrid school providing cutting edge technology uniquely shaped with biblical values. In the fall of 2013, Open Door Baptist Church is opening the Keystone School of Biblical Theology to continue the vision of training students who are seeking to serve the Lord in full-time ministry.

2012 marks the joyous celebration of 50 years of preaching the Word of God and reaching the Lebanon Area.
