Pacific School Mission

Pacific School’s mission is to prepare children for life through experiential learning that addresses the needs of the whole child. We create a safe and secure school environment that promotes social and academic growth and develops an enthusiasm for learning, a positive self-image, and cross-cultural understanding.

Vision:

The staff of Pacific School is dedicated to addressing the needs of the whole child by creating a school environment wherein every child may experience success in social and academic growth, as well as develop enthusiasm for learning.  Children learn to cooperate and take responsibility for their actions.  They learn to function with a sense of community while maintaining individuality and creative self-expression.  They are treated with kindness and respect, and learn to respect others. The multi-graded classroom environments allow children to become active participants in their own learning process.

School Profile

Pacific School, located in the rural community of Davenport is Santa Cruz County's smallest single school district. The school serves children from the town of Davenport and from the surrounding north coast area. District boundaries extend north along the Pacific coast to the San Mateo county line.

This year, Pacific School will celebrate its one hundred year anniversary! The school has served the north coast population since the early 1900's. The first school building was a one-room schoolhouse, built in 1906. Pacific School District consolidated with Swanton's Seaside School District in 1963. Until 1978, Pacific School was housed in a two-classroom building on the present site. The current school building was constructed in 1978 when the existing school building failed to conform to the Field Act.

The local community has a long history of support for its unique, single school district. Many of the school's students have parents and grandparents who attended Pacific School, however, new families, attracted by Pacific School's successful programs and environment add to the rich diversity of the school's population.
