Plainfield Township Trail :

Once used to transport slate to nearby quarries, the Bangor and Portland Railway opened in 1880 and served the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Westerns main line at Portland. A formal merger of the Bangor and Portland and the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railroad occurred on July, 1, 1909. One of the last branches to operate steam locomotives, the Bangor Engine Terminal withdrew its last steam locomotive on January 5, 1953. The railroad was bought by Conrail in 1976, and then abandoned in 1981. It was sold to plainfield Township in 1987 and converted to a trail.

A breathetaking view of a 70-foot drop into the Bushkill Creek, is just one of the feature this trail has to offer. Traversing the entire length of the township, the 60-foot wide right-of-way may eventually link at least seven other trails, including the Appalachian Trail, to create a corridor from the Lehigh and Delaware Valleys to the Poconos. For now, there are miles of rural landscapes and beautiful views to behold as you eind your way through the countryside and over the Bushkill's five bridges.
To reach Belfast Junction parking lot, take the Stockertwon exit off Route 33 and make a right at the first stop sign. At the next traffic light, turn left onto Sullivan Trail Road. Travel .75 miles, the trailhead parking lot will be on your right, just after a power station.

The Trail is a 1.5 mile railtrail near Stockertown in Northampton County. The trail meanders past old stone fencing and rocky outcrops high above the Delaware River outside of easton. It is a small part of the Forks Township Open Space Plan that totals close to twenty four miles of off-road bike and pedestrian pathways. The trail can be accessed via the 4th street exit of Route 22. Follow 611 North to Winchester Drive, which connects to the bike path.
