About Us:

From its coal mining roots, Pleasant Hill has always been an energetic and growing community. Incorporated in 1956, Pleasant Hill has grown from a population of 397 in 1960 to more than 6,000 people. With construction of the Highway 65 Bypass connecting Interstate 80 to Interstate 35 around the eastern edge of the metropolitan area, and looping just east of the city, growth is occurring daily. Pleasant Hill boasts a varied and thriving business community with many successful retail and commercial ventures.

Recreational opportunities are plentiful with a water park, a sports park featuring both winter and summer fun and an 18-hole golf course. Citywide summer events sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and the annual Hill of Lights Holiday Festival give the whole community a chance to come together to celebrate. Its close proximity to the State Fairgrounds, Adventureland and Prairie Meadows and other attractions mean that residents never have far to go to find fun.

Students in Pleasant Hill attend classes in either Southeast Polk or the Des Moines school districts. Civic organizations include a Women's Auxilliary League and Club, an Elks Lodge, as well as a very active Lions Club. A number of churches call Pleasant Hill home. The City Complex houses city administration offices, the Pleasant Hill Development Corporation and the Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce. There is also a Youth Center located in one of several city parks.
