Powell Pumpkin Patch

Powell Pumpkin Patch
25695 Spring Valley Road

History:

The first "patch" was in the vegetable garden that my husband Darrell York and I planted in Osage City, Kansas in 1982. We took some great pictures of our children, Logan and Audrey, sitting on the pumpkins. We moved to Bucyrus in 1983 when Darrell became the manager of Powell Dairy. In 1990, as the dairy business was winding down, Darrell, his brother Dan and their father Leland decided to try growing vegetables.

We remembered the pictures of the pumpkins in the garden and thought other families might enjoy watching their children wandering through a pumpkin patch, so we planted 35 acres, and the Powell Pumpkin Patch was born! Even though the Powell family no longer owns the farm we kept the Powell name to honor Marjorie Powell Allen. She loved the country and we think she would be pleased to know that we are providing a fun outdoor experience to so many families.

Through the years the York family has taken great pride in opening the patch to the public. We now plant 48 acres of pumpkins, squash, gourds and Indian corn. Our giant picture maze is in the middle of our corn and soybeans!

Our son Logan received his horticulture degree from Kansas State University in 2001. He works at the farm full time, planting and taking care of the crops. He also makes sure we have beautiful mums! He married Katie in 2002 and they have 3 sons, Luke, Matt, and Jake, who can't wait to be pumpkin farmers! In 2011, Logan finally got his farmer's daughter when Maggie was born.

We have been fortunate to have many family members come down to the patch to help us over the years. All four generations of the York family welcome you and look forward to sharing our harvest with your every fall!
