Randolph-Roanoke Career Technology Center has been a driving force for business and industry in Randolph County since 1973. Throughout the years, the administration and faculty have been committed to providing high quality technical training for the students of the Randolph County and Roanoke City School Systems.

In January 1973, the Randolph County and Roanoke City Boards of Education undertook a joint venture to construct a state-of-the-art training facility on Highway 431, approximately a half mile from downtown Wedowee. Construction began in the spring of 1973 and was completed in January 1974. Of the original eight departments, five are still in existence, as well as three departments that were added in 1979: healthcare science, electrical technology, and forestry. The five original departments are business/marketing, cosmetology, automotive technology, welding technology, and agriconstruction. A cooperative education has been added to provide training and support for co-op students who work during high school.

High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors from each of the four high schools have the opportunity to attend day classes. Evening classes are periodically offered for adults in the community when funds and instructors are available.

Students are taught not only the skills which are necessary in their chosen professions but also the practical, job-related skills of cooperation, dependability, and punctuality, all of which are valuable in the workplace.

A philosophy of hard work and commitment to excellence have always been evident at this school. Students entering competition in their respective youth organizations many times place in state and national competitions as a result of the training they receive. Students who do not go to work immediately after high school often enter post secondary institutions to pursue academic or technical training.
