HISTORY

by William C. Maytum - President 1976

I started life as large piles of construction materials on a vacant lot. They came with shovels and tools, digging my foundation and building my walls. My name was Meighan and I was strong. Later I heard words, "Boom", bust and depression, storm and hurricane....but I stood firm because I was strong.

Then I was silent, but I heard them say "WAR, bullets, bombs, shortages, doctor, "WAR" I was sad.

They came back. They gave me paint and new machines and new names, Vogue, later Cinema. One named Goldie was here and there was laughter and happiness once more.

Again, I was silent. They said, "low profit, old and obsolete", but I stood firm because I was strong.

Now they are back, My machines are gone, replaced with powerful spotlights. I have a stage and they come from miles around to hear singers and actors perform. I am again filled with happy laughter and I am glad.

My name is now Richey Suncoast Theatre and I am strong.
